If the sound of the Nutcracker doesn’t excite you, read on to see all the exciting new changes we have this year!

Same old Nutcracker?
The Nutcracker, Russian Shchelkunchik, is a ballet by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The last of his three ballets, it was first performed in December 1892. Every year, we recreate this timeless classic in Santa Cruz with our Nutcracker Performance. But just because it’s a longtime tradition doesn’t mean it’s boring—if anything, with each new retelling we breathe new life into the classic. Even if it’s the same timeless music and inspirations, our new cast every year of dancers ages 4 through adult keep it fresh.
What’s new this year?
At the International Academy of Dance, we put a modern spin on the Nutcracker. Last year we added Green Tea—a jazzy ensemble featuring new music and choreography.
This year we have some exciting updates and additions! Don’t miss Nutcracker: Experience the Magic at Cabrillo’s Crocker Theater this December 19th and 20th. Shows are at 1:00 and 4:30 PM.
Want to stand out at the audition?
The best way to stand out at the audition is to hone your ballet skills and technique, which is achieved through consistent training. So what’s the best way to train consistently? By enrolling in IADance classes of course! We offer classes for dancers 2.5 years old to 205 years old. Learn more about dance classes & sign-up here!
We hope that you’ll join us this Nutcracker season, and create the magic with us.
