Modern and Spanish Dance

On-line Enrollment begins August 9th and is open
all year through April 15th on a space available basis

Modern Dance is at the forefront of most major ballet and contemporary dance companies today, although it started out as a way to break away from Classical Ballet’s codified traditions. In modern dance class we are free to form new movement as well as study the work of our predecessors, including the great techniques of Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Paul Taylor and Katherine Dunham to name a few.

IAD’s Spanish Dance class focuses on the dance form called clásico español, a form of Spanish dance based on the principles of classical ballet. Students will begin to learn the classical version of the Sevillanas, a dance which is traditionally performed each year at the spring fairs in Andalucía.

  • Modern Dance is for beginners (ages 6+), however, the class may be repeated several times to gain the maximum benefit of the class. There is much to learn and master in each level before progressing. Modern is for all dancers serious about exploring the possibilities of dance.

  • Spanish Dance is open to dancers (ages 9+) with at least two years of recent, serious dance training and may be repeated several times as there is much to learn. The instructor is able to work with varying levels within the class. This class is highly recommended for dancers in our Ballet Training Program levels III and up.
